Our story

Our story

Third Space Learning is the UK’s largest online maths tutoring company for schools.

Founded in 2013, we’re a team of teachers, curriculum and product designers, social entrepreneurs, and education experts who are committed to closing the maths attainment gap through affordable, effective, and scalable online one-to-one teaching.

Over the last 10+ years we’ve helped improve educational outcomes for over 170,000 pupils across more than 4,000 schools in the UK, and more recently the US. The majority of the pupils we’ve worked with have been eligible for free school meals.

Today, our one-to-one maths tutoring programmes are taught by our specially-trained voice-based AI maths tutor Skye, who talks pupils through teacher-created maths lessons as they listen and responds. Lessons address each pupil’s individual knowledge gaps, resulting in a highly effective and completely personalised intervention, designed by teachers for teachers.

Our mission

Our mission

We believe the best way to boost maths skills and build confidence is to give each child the opportunity to learn at their own pace in a one to one environment.

However, traditional one-to-one tutoring is expensive and difficult for schools to organise.

Our mission is for every student to be able to access great quality online tuition to help them succeed in, and love, their learning.

By taking maths tutoring online and creating a truly engaging, interactive and responsive AI maths tutor, we’re making this kind of highly valuable one-to-one support more accessible for schools than ever before.

Our impact

Our impact

Since 2013, over 2.1 million online one-to-one maths tutoring lessons have taken place in the Third Space Learning virtual classroom.

In an independent trial with Rising Stars, pupils receiving one to one support from Third Space Learning made 7 months’ progress in 14 weeks.

As well as this impact on progress and attainment, Third Space Learning also helps to transform pupil mindset and build confidence with maths. Of pupils who report low confidence at the start, 70% say this has improved by the end of the lesson. Pupils who self-identify as showing low effort and low enjoyment with maths show a significant improvement in these areas by the end of the programme.
