Decimals and place value
Reading, writing and comparing decimals to thousandths. Students learn and practice operations with decimals – adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals by multi-digit numbers. Place value in multi-digit whole numbers is taught alongside decimals, building fluency with decimals across all four operations.
Whole number operations and numerical expressions
Fluency with multi-digit multiplication and division of whole numbers. Students learn multi-digit whole number division, then writing and interpreting numerical expressions using order of operations, including writing numerical expressions without evaluating them.
Measurement, data and volume
Converting like measurement units within a system (both customary units and metric customary units). Understanding volume as an attribute of three-dimensional space, and finding the volume of rectangular prisms. Representing data on line plots, including fractions on line plots.
Geometry and the coordinate plane
Graphing points on the coordinate plane to solve real-world word problems. Classifying two-dimensional figures into categories based on their properties, and learning to classify two dimensional figures by attributes using the coordinate plane and ordered pairs.
