The right support at the right time

Autumn Term (enrolling now)

Lessons focus on securing core KS2 concepts and plugging gaps.

Spring Term

Lessons focus on consolidating, revising and practising for SATs.

Summer Term

Lessons focus on preparing Y5 pupils for the transition to Y6.

The best way to be prepared for SATs is to build solid foundations and secure key concepts from an early stage.  That’s why the KS2 SATs intervention follows a structured three phase approach. We recommend beginning the intervention as early as possible in the school year for the greatest impact.

Diagnostic assessment

Identify and address individual learning gaps

In September we begin by assessing your target pupils against Year 6 expectations.

You decide whether you’d like lesson objectives for the intervention lessons to be automatically selected or if you’d rather choose from our curriculum of over 270 lessons.

Develop maths talk and reasoning

Weekly online lessons are delivered to your target pupils on a one-to-one basis by specialist tutors, who adapt the pitch and pace to each learner.

One-to-one conversation about maths helps pupils develop their reasoning and problems solving skills. They are challenged to demonstrate that they fully understand each question, a key skill for SATs.

Build familiarity with SATs questions

All lessons incorporate problem questions for pupils to talk through with their tutor (the proportion of the lesson spent on practice questions increases between January and May).

Pupils become more confident quickly and accurately applying their skills in a range of contexts and drawing upon a variety of methods simultaneously.

Keep up to date with progress

You can quickly and easily see the content your pupils are covering using our online platform.

Weekly reports ensure you’re kept in the loop and are able to feed this assessment into your class teaching, whilst progress overviews capture impact across a term or year.

Address target areas across your Year 5 and 6 cohorts

With our intervention programmes your school gets access to our online resource library, the Third Space Maths Hub. You can choose from hundreds of resources to support teaching across the whole of Key Stage 2, not just those Year 6 pupils taking part in the online lessons.

This includes a whole range of SATs-specific resources, from progress packs (including Fluent and Five and Rapid Reasoning) to practice papers, to modelled question videos for your pupils.
