This week Third Space Global (TSG), the part of our company behind the training and employment of our Maths specialist tutors, were excited to welcome His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex, and Her Royal Highness, The Countess of Wessex to their academic centre in Sri Lanka.
For nearly three years, TSG has employed and trained Sri Lankan Maths specialists to help deliver our online 1-to-1 teaching to more than 7000 primary school pupils across the UK. While doing so, TSG also supports Sri Lankan education through its free eLearning Hubs for children and free Teaching Workshops for teachers.
As part of this hugely exciting visit, the Earl of Wessex unveiled a plaque marking our new mission statement: ‘We seek social change by cultivating a global community of the most ambitious talent to make effective online teaching more accessible than ever before.’
Their Royal Highnesses also joined in on a 1-to-1 Maths intervention session with primary school students in the UK using TSG’s virtual classroom – truly becoming part of our global community!
But what did the pupils think about it? Nikiah: ” Third Space is fun and really helps me with my Maths. It was cool talking to Prince Edward because he is royalty!”
The Royal couple were welcomed to Third Space Global by its CEO, Roshan Nilaweera, along with senior management and the CEO of Orion City, Jeevan Gnanam. The Earl and Countess of Wessex were given a tour of TSG’s recently opened office at Orion City where they saw firsthand the 200-strong staff delivering online teaching.
On the royal visit, CEO of Third Space Global, Roshan Nilaweera had this to say:
The whole Third Space team felt incredibly honoured and proud when we heard that we had been chosen for a royal visit. All the staff were excited and a little nervous about the visit, it’s not everyday that a Prince and Countess come to visit! Their Royal Highnesses, The Earl and Countess of Wessex were incredibly friendly and warm as they spoke with all the tutors across the office. I am sure our staff and their families will be speaking about this for decades to come.
After the tour, and session, their Royal Highnesses discussed the importance of education and the challenges and opportunities of a more connected world with Third Space Global Staff.
Mr Nilaweera said, “I believe education is the most important investment a country can make in its future, and this applies to Sri Lanka as much as the UK. We should all feel very proud of the great role we play in supporting UK children whilst providing training and employment opportunities here in Sri Lanka. We were delighted to host Their Royal Highnesses and discuss our shared commitment to education.”
